Privacy Policy
StillWatching ("we," "our," or "us") is a personal TV and movie tracking service, available as a website and as a native iOS app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. It applies to both the web and mobile apps; where a practice is specific to one, we say so.
Information We Collect
When you use StillWatching, we may collect information you provide directly, such as your email address when you create an account, and the watchlist data you add to the service (shows, movies, episode progress, and ratings).
We also collect limited usage data such as which features you use and general interaction patterns, to help improve the product. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
We collect diagnostic data to keep the apps stable: when something errors or crashes, we record technical details such as the error or stack trace, the action that triggered it, recent in-app activity (for example recent network requests, taps, and screen or page changes), and device information (for the web, your browser and operating system; for the iOS app, your device model and OS version). In the iOS app this also includes crash reports and basic performance diagnostics, and any feedback you choose to submit through the app's in-app feedback option. When you are signed in, diagnostic events are tagged with your account identifier and email so we can investigate issues affecting your account; they are not used for advertising. See "Third-Party Services" below for the provider (Sentry).
Third-Party Services
StillWatching uses third-party services (including The Movie Database (TMDB) for show and movie information) to provide its core features. Your queries to TMDB (such as searching for titles) may transmit your IP address to TMDB and are subject to TMDB's Privacy Policy. We do not control and are not responsible for TMDB's data practices.
We use PostHog (US) for aggregate product analytics on both the web and iOS apps — for example, to understand how many people are actively using the service and which features they use most. PostHog is configured without cookies or any persistent device identifier; events are associated only with a randomly generated account identifier (never your email), it does not track you across sites or apps, and it is not used for advertising. See PostHog's Privacy Policy for details on their data practices.
We use Sentry (US) for error monitoring, crash reporting, and performance diagnostics on both the web and iOS apps. When an error, crash, or unhandled exception occurs, Sentry receives the diagnostic data described under "Information We Collect" above — including technical error details, recent in-app activity, device and OS/browser information, and, when you are signed in, your account identifier and email. On iOS this also covers crash reports, performance traces, and any feedback you submit through the in-app feedback option. Sentry is used solely to detect, diagnose, and fix problems; it is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. See Sentry's Privacy Policy for details on their data practices.
If you sign in with Google, Google provides us with limited profile information (name and email) solely for authentication purposes. If you sign in with Apple, Apple may provide a name and either your real email address or an anonymized relay address, used only for authentication.
Data Storage
Your watchlist, ratings, and preferences are stored in our database and may be associated with your account. Local-only profiles store data in your browser's localStorage and are not synced to our servers unless you create an account.
Cookies
StillWatching uses session cookies to maintain your authenticated session. We also store certain preferences (such as your selected color theme) in your browser's localStorage. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or third-party tracking cookies. We do not respond to Do Not Track signals.
Your Rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or a jurisdiction with similar data protection laws (including, without limitation, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, or "CCPA"), you may have the following rights with respect to your personal data:
- Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Deletion: You may delete your account and its data yourself, at any time, from within the app (Profile → Delete Account). You may also request deletion by contacting us, subject to certain exceptions.
- Portability: You can download a machine-readable copy of your own data at any time from within the app (Profile → Export My Data). Where applicable law allows, you may also request a copy by contacting us.
- Objection: You may object to certain processing activities where we rely on legitimate interests as our legal basis.
You can exercise the deletion and portability rights directly in the app as described above. For any of these rights, or if a self-service action fails, you may also contact us at [email protected]. We will respond to verified requests within the timeframe required by applicable law. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we have not addressed your concern.
Note: Users outside of account-based (guest/local) profiles have more limited rights as their data is not associated with an identified individual.
Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Upon account deletion, we delete or anonymize your data in accordance with our retention obligations, except where retention is required by applicable law.
Your Choices
You can export your data (Profile → Export My Data) or delete your account (Profile → Delete Account) at any time directly in the app; contacting us at the address below remains available as a fallback. On the web you can also clear your local browser data through your browser's settings, which will remove any locally-stored preferences and your guest profile.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
